Timber in modern construction
Cross-laminated timber and engineered wood products are reshaping how we build.
Cross-laminated timber has moved from an experiment to our default structure for buildings under eight storeys. It is quicker to erect, lighter on foundations, and stores carbon rather than emitting it.
The constraints are real: fire engineering has to be settled early, acoustics need more attention than in concrete, and the supply chain rewards early orders. Handled well, none of them are reasons to say no.
