Courtyard Renovation

A derelict inner courtyard re-paved in large-format concrete tiles and opened to the rooms around it. The existing trees were kept; their shadows now do most of the decorating.

The building was fine; the courtyard was a car park. Removing two walls, one lean-to and a great deal of tarmac gave four apartments the garden they had always faced away from.

The paving is one tile size, laid tight, so the trees and their shadows are the only pattern.
