Palm Court Residence

A single-storey house arranged around an existing stand of palms. Full-height glazing on the garden side, deep overhangs for shade, and a white rendered wall to the street.

The palms came first. We measured every trunk and drew the house around them, so that the courtyard was already forty years old the day the family moved in.

Deep overhangs keep the sun off the glass until late afternoon; the white wall to the street keeps the road out and the garden in.
